Riverfront Adventures

Summertime in Virginia is my absolute favorite! With my house just a mile from the Rockfish River, I get to enjoy an entire summer full of river activities. My family and friends love to pack up our coolers and spend the hot humid days floating on the river, stopping at our favorite swimming holes, casting our poles to catch trout, or looking for pawpaw’s (native banana type fruit). We love to end the day with a cook out at the river cabin which is nestled along the banks of the Rockfish. If we don’t have time to float the river then we will gather “on the island” soaking up the sun and staying cool in the pristine water.  And don’t let me fool you; our island on the Rockfish is simply a sandbar which we turned into a tropical oasis ☺

Having your own piece of paradise can be yours as well. Virginia offers plenty of riverfront properties available for purchase. Although there is some risk with any waterfront property (flooding, EPA intrusion, and Zoning regulations) you have to whole heartedly understand the risks and make informed decisions on the property you are purchasing. Once you have made the choice to purchase riverfront property, Virginia offers a vast system of rivers to look for homes on such as the following:

  • James River
  • Rappahannock River
  • Potomac River
  • Rivanna River
  • Rockfish River
  • Shenandoah River

No matter where you decide to look for property to purchase one thing you will find is your own private oasis and escape from the world. You can spend hot summers floating down one of Virginias pristine rivers while relaxing with friends. Sit on the riverbank with your toes in the water while enjoying a cool crisp glass of a local white wine and reading your favorite book. Or during the cooler months, enjoy a campfire with your family roasting marshmallows reliving summer adventures through favorite stories. No matter what your dream or desire is with owning a riverfront property, you will be sure to find the perfect one in Virginia.
